The Beginner Gun Dog Program is designed to serve two purposes.

The first being to get your dog ready for their first hunting season or to get a gun dog back into shape for the upcoming season.

The second purpose is to have your dog ready to pass an AKC Junior Hunt test.

We recommend starting your dog off in this program between 6 months to a year simply because it's easier for a young dog to pick up commands than to have to reteach an older dog. However, we understand that some situations/needs can vary and therefore cater each program towards each dogs specific needs/skill set.

In general though, here are some of the commands/skills that your dog will be trained in when entered into our Beginner Gun Dog Program (if interested you may also inquire as to how we train dogs such as spaniels or pointers differently, with them also being trained for upland hunting)

  •  Obedience on/off leash

  • Delivery/release of fowl

  • Completion of Force Fetch

  • Gun Conditioning/Steadiness

  • Memorization of medium-long distance marks

  • E-Collar Conditioning

  • Intro to hunting scenarios; boats, blinds, dog vests, (if training for field/flooded timber hunts let us know prior as we will use a wider variety of equipment while training your pup).

  • Etc.
